Today is the anniversary of the 1st atomic bomb to be dropped in anger - on Hiroshima in Japan. According to Wikipedia, 140,000 people in Hiroshima (up to 39 percent of the population) were initially killed. Many more died later from the side effects of radiation poisoning.
